
In an effort to promote peace, development, physical fitness, sportsmanship and social harmony through sports, 232 (M) Battalion, CRPF, under the Khelo India – “Sports for Peace and Development” initiative, has organised an Under-18 Girls’ Football Tournament at the Volleyball Ground of Presidency College, Motbung, Manipur.
The three-day tournament, being held from October 8 to 10, has brought together 12 teams comprising 157 female participants, who are taking part with enthusiasm and sporting spirit.
As part of efforts to encourage and support the young players, jerseys, shorts and football boots have been provided to all participating teams.
The opening ceremony was graced by Thongkhosiem Semboi Haokip, a professional footballer from Manipur and Indian Super League (ISL) player who plays as a striker, as the Chief Guest.
The ceremony was also attended by several special guests, including Ashok Kumar Singh, Commandant, 94 BN CRPF; Lalginsei Lhouvum, President, Motbung Youth Club; Peter Minthang, Secretary, Motbung Youth Club; Aravind Kumar, AC, 112 BN CRPF; Shashi Bhushan Toppo, AC, 94 BN CRPF; Rupesh, AC, 94 BN CRPF; Hanuman Singh Meena, AC, 94 BN CRPF; Sreerag Krishna, MO, 94 BN CRPF; and Aiswarya Joy M, AC, G-232 (M) BN CRPF.
The tournament aims to provide young women with a healthy and competitive sporting platform while encouraging team spirit, discipline, determination, physical fitness, fair play and sportsmanship.
At the event, participants also took an oath to contribute towards building a Drug-Free India and pledged to uphold the values of discipline, integrity and fair play both on and off the field.
The tournament carries prize money across several categories. The winners will receive ₹30,000, while the second- and third-place teams will receive ₹20,000 and ₹10,000, respectively. Individual awards carrying ₹3,000 each have also been announced for the Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfielder and Top Scorer.
Through the initiative, 232 (M) Battalion CRPF seeks to encourage young people, particularly girls, to adopt a healthy and positive lifestyle, stay away from drugs and other harmful substances, and build friendship, unity and mutual understanding between the security forces and the local community.
The tournament reflects the broader objective of using sports as a means to strengthen social harmony and empower youth.
