Joujangtek (Lambung) Village has lifted the blockade on the Old Cachar Road with immediate effect following an agreement reached with the concerned authorities.
The blockade had been imposed along the Old Cachar Road since June 19 following an incident on June 18 in which farmers from Joujangtek Village were allegedly attacked by miscreants, resulting in injuries to one farmer.
On Tuesday, Divya Rajput, Superintendent of Police (SP), Noney; Md. Salauddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC), Khoupum; Ziaur Rahman, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Longmai; and leaders of Joujangtek Village reached an agreement stating that security forces shall ensure the safety and protection of all farmers from Joujangtek Village during agricultural and other activities.
The agreement further stated that the supply and movement of essential commodities for the villagers of Joujangtek shall not be obstructed or disturbed by any party.
It was also agreed that, in the event of any future attack, threat, or intimidation directed at Joujangtek Village, all terms of the agreement shall stand null and void.
It may be recalled that on June 18, a villager was injured after suspected Naga militant groups allegedly opened fire on civilians working in agricultural fields at Joujangtek Village in Noney district on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports from the ground, the incident occurred around noon when villagers were engaged in farming activities in their fields. The armed militants reportedly launched an attack on the unsuspecting villagers, triggering panic in the area.
Witnesses said heavy gunfire was heard during the attack, forcing villagers to flee their fields and seek safety.
One villager, identified as Nohjang of Joujangtek Village, sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. Sources said he was shot in the arm and chest.
