A public rally in protest against the proposed Indo-Myanmar Border Demarcation in the Khengjoi Sector under Chandel district was held on Monday in Khengjang and Molcham Villages under the aegis of Affected Border Area Kuki Chiefs of Khengjoi Sector, Chandel District, Manipur
The chiefs issued a release in connection with the rally and expressed grave concern that, following the meeting held on May 11,2026 under the Chairmanship of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed completion of Demarcation within 3 months including the realignment of several Boundary Pillars in Khengjoi Sector, Chandel District Manipur.
The release stated that the proposed alignment in respect of BP No. 65- Molcham Village, BP No. 66- Jangngoulen Village, BP No.67-Khumkot village and BP No. 68 - Joldam Village does not follow the existing ground position long recognised and occupied by Kuki Zo people.
“For us, these lands are not merely property, they are ancestral homestead, jhum and wet rice fields, burial grounds and customary commons that constitute the very basis of livelihood and identity of the Kuki-Zo people of this frontier ” stated the release.
Stating that the present boundary position is the only solution, the release further stated that the villagers cannot accept undemocratic move of the government and that not an inch of the village land will be parted.
