The Thadou Inpi General Headquarters (TI-GHQ), the apex body of the Thadou tribe, on issued a sweeping clarification rejecting the legitimacy of Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), Thadou Community International (TCI) and Thadou Students Association GHQ (TSA-GHQ), while simultaneously demanding a high-level National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the brutal ambush and killing of three Thadou Baptist Association church leaders and a pastor.
In its press release, TI-GHQ reiterated that it had already clarified on November 4, 2024 that the formation of Thadou Inpi Manipur by Lamjathang Haokip and James Jamkhomang Haokip was invalid. Citing the resolution of the Thadou Conclave 2015 held in Delhi and the General Assembly 2021 at Haipi village in Kangpokpi district, the organisation asserted that the newly formed TIM and all bodies other than TI-GHQ are illegitimate and unconstitutional.
The apex body further referred to a joint declaration made by Thadou bodies under the aegis of Thadou Inpi GHQ on March 4, 2026, stating that TIM, TCI and TSA-GHQ — allegedly formed by Michael Lamjathang Haokip — are unlawful and illegitimate organisations created for personal benefit without constitutional sanction from the Thadou people.
TI-GHQ expressed “absolute outrage and deep indignation” at Michael Lamjathang Haokip, accusing him of publicly disowning the historical and social position of the Thadou within the Kuki fold and adopting positions perceived as hostile to the collective interests of his own people during a period of extreme suffering.
According to the statement, copies of the declaration have been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Governor of Manipur, Chief Minister of Manipur, Chief Secretary, DGP, major Meitei civil society organisations including UCM, AMUCO and COCOMI, Naga bodies including UNC and ANSAM, media organisations, Young Mizo Association and Mizo Zillai Pawl.
The TI-GHQ categorically maintained that TIM, TCI and TSA-GHQ are organisations run by only one or two individuals and have no mandate from Thadou-inhabited areas, asserting that these bodies do not represent the Thadou community.
While mourning the untimely demise of what it called “God’s Servants” and extending condolences to bereaved families, TI-GHQ also strongly dismissed the press release issued by the so-called TIM and TCI as baseless, presumptive and provocative, accusing them of attempting to incite misunderstanding at a time of grief and fragility.
The organisation called upon all tribal and community leaders across the state not to exploit the volatile situation for narrow interests and urged every section to shun violence so that peace can be preserved.
In one of its strongest demands, TI-GHQ said, “We strongly demand that high level investigation under NIA agency be instituted into the ambush and killing of the three Thadou Baptist Association Church Leaders, and Pastor. And all the perpetrators of the arms groups involved be identified and prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law.”
The statement marks one of the sharpest internal assertions yet by TI-GHQ, combining an organisational legitimacy battle with an uncompromising call for justice, as public anger intensifies over the killings and pressure mounts for accountability, peace and decisive intervention.
