
The Kuki Worship Service (KWS), Shillong, a constituent unit of the Council of Kuki Worship Service (CKWS), marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 50th anniversary—Golden Jubilee—on Sunday (September 14) at LARITI Hall, Mawkasiang, Shillong. Established in 1975, KWS Shillong has grown into a spiritual cornerstone for the Kuki Christian community in the region.
Held under the central theme “Shine for Christ”, the celebration witnessed an inspiring turnout of over 100 delegates, including leaders from various KWS units across India and representatives from the governing body, the Council of Kuki Worship Service (CKWS).
In a key highlight of the event, CKWS Chairman Rev. Bishop Paothang announced the newly elected leaders of the council and offered a dedicatory prayer, ushering in a renewed era of leadership for the broader KWS network.
The Golden Jubilee was also graced by Kukis from various walks of life, including attendees from KWS Guwahati, KWS Azara, KWS Happy Valley, and KWS Umiam, reinforcing the event’s spirit of unity and shared faith.
Rev. Dr. Hemkhomang Haokip, Pastor of KWS Shillong, presided over the ceremony as the minister of the event and officially inaugurated the KWS Shillong Golden Jubilee Plaque, marking the occasion with reverence and celebration.
Prof. TT Haokip, Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Committee, recounted the origins of KWS Shillong and reflected on God’s unwavering guidance over the past five decades. A special Jubilee handout was presented as a token of appreciation to former leaders, past and present KWS workers, and missionaries.
Musical presentations by the Golden Jubilee Choir and the Children's Sunday School Department added a vibrant and worshipful tone to the programme.
Former leaders—including Rev. Dino L Touthang, Upa J Lhungdim, Rev. Satpau Hangsing, Holpao Baite, S Chongloi, Seitinmang Kipgen, among others—delivered heartfelt speeches, highlighting the pivotal role of KWS Shillong in nurturing the spiritual and cultural identity of the Kuki community in Shillong.
Prominent civil society representatives such as Seimang Touthang, President of Kuki Inpi Meghalaya, and Lhunkholal Boboi Touthang, President of Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), also addressed the gathering, commending KWS Shillong’s contributions to the community over the decades.
The Golden Jubilee celebration concluded with a spirit of thanksgiving and renewed commitment to the community’s spiritual journey.
