With each passing day, the Kuki people continue to bear the brunt of Naga atrocities. Another day, another Kuki village burned.

In a fresh attack on Kuki villages, NSCN-IM militants allegedly attacked Leikot Kuki Village early this morning in Noney District.

The Kuki Inpi Jiribam, Tamenglong and Noney (JTN) strongly condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the unprovoked attack allegedly carried out by NSCN-IM militants on Leikot Kuki Village in Noney District, Manipur, at around 5:00 a.m. on 2 July 2026.

According to reports received, local village volunteers attempted to defend the village with their limited resources and licensed single-barrel firearms. However, the attackers reportedly employed automatic and sophisticated weapons, including mortar shells, overwhelming the local defenders. Unable to withstand the assault, the village volunteers were compelled to withdraw, following which Leikot Kuki Village was reportedly set ablaze and extensively damaged.

Kuki Inpi JTN viewed the incident as a grave act of aggression against innocent civilians and a serious threat to peace and security in the region. Such attacks on vulnerable villages are utterly unacceptable and deserve unequivocal condemnation from all sections of society.

Kuki Inpi JTN further questioned the concerned district administration and security agencies regarding the inadequacy of security arrangements in vulnerable areas of Noney District, which has allowed such incidents to recur.

The safety and protection of civilians remain the fundamental responsibility of the government, Kuki Inpi JTN said.

Kuki Inpi JTN appeals to the Central Government, the Government of Manipur, and all concerned authorities to immediately institute a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, identify the perpetrators, and ensure that justice is delivered at the earliest. Adequate security measures must also be put in place to prevent the recurrence of such attacks in the future.

Failure to address the grievances of the affected people and bring the perpetrators to justice may further aggravate the prevailing situation and lead to undesirable consequences, Kuki Inpi JTN said adding that it stands firmly with the people of Leikot Kuki Village during this difficult time and reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the rights, security, and dignity of the Kuki people.
