In a decisive move signaling renewed momentum in the ongoing movement for justice and recognition, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) Governing Council has resolved to organize a public rally or protest to urge the Government of India to expedite the fulfillment of the long-pending political demands of the Kuki-Zo community.
The resolution was adopted today during the KZC Governing Council’s General Body Meeting held at the VTI Auditorium, Rengkai, Churachandpur District. The meeting, which commenced at 11:30 a.m. and lasted for over four hours, brought together 60 delegates representing all constituent bodies under the Council, reflecting a broad-based consensus within the Kuki-Zo collective leadership.
During the first session, the Financial Report was presented by Rev. Dr. G.S. Gangte, Treasurer of KZC, and the Organisational Activity Report by Henlianthang Thanglet, Chairman of KZC. Both reports underscored the Council’s unwavering commitment to the community’s cause despite formidable challenges and constraints.
The Business Session, chaired by C.H. Ajang Khongsai, Co-ordinator of the Governing Council, became the focal point of deliberation as delegates voiced concerns over the Government’s prolonged inaction and the pressing need for collective assertion. Members spoke with one voice on the necessity of intensifying public engagement and mobilization to ensure that the political aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people are not sidelined.
After thorough deliberation, the Governing Council adopted three key resolutions:
Firstly, the tenure of the KZC Cabinet will henceforth be fixed at two years. Secondly, the existing Cabinet will continue to serve for the next two-year term. Thirdly, a public rally or protest shall be organized soon to urge the Government to expedite the fulfillment of the Kuki-Zo community’s political demands.
The Council reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the ongoing movement for the Kuki-Zo people’s political future, asserting that only through sustained unity and mass mobilization can their aspirations for justice, peace, and self-determination be realized.
The meeting concluded with a strong sense of solidarity and determination to carry forward the struggle until the rights and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo community are fully acknowledged and achieved.
