The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has announced the immediate lifting of the ongoing economic blockade in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas, citing assurances from the government to supply food grains and essential commodities to the affected regions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, KIM said the decision was taken in good faith after taking serious note of the government's commitment to address the shortage of essential supplies faced by the Kuki-Zo population in Kangpokpi and adjoining districts.

With the blockade withdrawn, the apex Kuki civil body called upon the government and all concerned authorities to ensure the uninterrupted supply of food grains, fuel, medicines, and other essential commodities within the next 48 hours.

KIM stated that it had repeatedly raised concerns over the prolonged hardship, deprivation, and scarcity experienced by the Kuki-Zo people due to disruptions in the supply of basic necessities.

The organisation expressed hope that the government would honour its assurances and act promptly to alleviate the suffering of the affected population.

However, the body cautioned that failure to deliver the promised supplies within the stipulated timeframe could compel the Kuki-Zo people to take appropriate measures to safeguard their survival, dignity, and rights.

"The present decision is taken with the sincere expectation that the Government will act responsibly and honour its assurance without delay," the statement said.

KIM further asserted that any consequences arising from continued food scarcity, deprivation, or failure of supply would rest solely with the government and the authorities concerned.

Reiterating its stand, the organisation emphasized that access to food, medicine, and essential commodities is a basic human necessity and should never be delayed, obstructed, or politicised under any circumstances.

The economic blockade had been imposed amid growing concerns over shortages of essential items in Kuki-Zo areas, with local organisations demanding immediate government intervention to restore normal supply lines.
