
The Government of Manipur has strongly condemned the killing of two Assam Rifles personnel in an ambush by militants near Nungshangkong in Ukhrul district, under the jurisdiction of Ukhrul Police Station, on Monday.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the two Assam Rifles personnel and strongly condemned the brutal attack.
The Chief Minister maintained that the government will not tolerate such acts of violence and will not remain a mute spectator to these atrocities. He added that those responsible for the murders will be arrested and punished in accordance with the law of the land.
According to sources, Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar C.M. Singh of the 40 Assam Rifles—the latter reportedly serving as the driver—were killed in the ambush at Nungshangkong in Ukhrul district. The attack was allegedly carried out by the NSCN-IM.
Meanwhile, State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam also condemned the attack on the security forces, asserting that such incidents only disrupt peace and harmony. In a post on X, Govindas said, "I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate ambush on the convoy of the 40 Assam Rifles at Nungshangkong in Ukhrul."
The Home Minister stated that such incidents only disrupt the peace and harmony that everyone aspires to uphold.
He also expressed confidence that the security forces would take all necessary measures to ensure that those responsible are dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
