Tengnoupal CSOs Relax 48-Hour Highway Bandh for One Week, Warn of Fresh Agitation

Civil society organisations (CSOs) of Moreh, Tengnoupal district have decided to relax the 48-hour highway bandh imposed over the alleged unsatisfactory functioning of medical institutions in Moreh, giving the government one week to address their demands.

The decision was taken by the Kuki Chiefs Association, Hill Tribal Council, Tamil Sangam, Gorkha Samaj Sewa Samiti and Manipuri Muslim Council in consultation with various community leaders of Moreh.

In a joint statement, the organisations said the bandh, which was imposed primarily to demand the stationing of shortlisted doctors under the Governor's order dated July 22, 2026, as well as to highlight various lapses in the functioning of the Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH), hospital and Primary Health Centres (PHCs), would be relaxed for a week in view of reports that the government was taking steps to address the issues.

The CSOs said the relaxation would be effective from August 26, allowing the public to avoid further inconvenience while giving the authorities time to act on the demands.

However, they warned that if the government failed to resolve the issues within the stipulated one-week period, the public would resort to other forms of democratic agitation.

The CSOs said the government would bear full responsibility for any consequences arising from further failure to address the concerns.

The CSOs also demanded action against government doctors allegedly operating private clinics while in service, as well as against those accused of failing to comply with government orders and responsibilities attached to their positions.

They appealed to the concerned authorities to initiate immediate measures to improve the functioning of medical institutions in Moreh and resolve the grievances to prevent further complications.
