The Working Committee, Joint Tribes Council Manipur (JTCM) has demanded an apology from the chairman of Kuki Zo Council Henlianthang Thanglet for using the terminology ‘Kacha naga’ during a recent intereaction with media.

JTCM issued a release on Saturday stating that the deliberate use of the colonial slur Kacha Naga is a calculated provocation and a direct affront to our ancestors and identity of Nagas.

“For a leader of your stature to deploy such terminology is either profound historical ignorance or wilful intent to demean neither acceptable. This provocation compounds our collective mourning for six innocent Naga brothers who were kidnapped on May 13th, 2026 and found brutally dismembered on June 10th, 2026. To refer to us as "Kacha Nagas" while our brothers lie butchered is an unforgivable insult to their memory” says JTCM

The naga body stated that the KZC chairman admission on the killings of 6 nagas as a great mistake is insufficient. The chairman cannot admit to murder while simultaneously justifying it with hateful rhetoric and baseless allegations, the release stated

Stating that an apology without accountability is meaningless, JTCM demanded that the KZC chairman must issue an unconditional, unequivocal, public apology to the entire Naga people in Manipur for using Kacha Naga and for hateful and provocative statements.

JTCM demanded that the KZC chairman acknowledge the sovereignty and dignity of Naga identity while adding that continued refusal to apologise renders him solely responsible for any consequences that follow.

“Are security forces complicit in shielding the culprits?  What action has been taken to bring the killers to justice?” the release added.

Stating that the absence of accountability is a stain on the conscience of this nation” the release stated that JTCM will not rest until justice is served and every perpetrator is brought before the law.
