As part of the observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2025, a Mega Tribal Health Camp was held today at Leikop DIET Centre, which currently shelters hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kangpokpi District. The initiative marked a significant effort to promote public health and social welfare among displaced tribal communities.
The health camp was organized by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Kangpokpi District, and supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. It formed part of the nationwide observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, celebrated every year on November 15 to honour India’s tribal freedom fighters, particularly Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and to acknowledge the vital contributions of tribal communities to the nation’s freedom struggle, cultural heritage, and socio-economic development.
This year’s observance holds special significance as it marks the 5th Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, making it an occasion of profound pride and remembrance.
The health camp primarily focused on delivering free healthcare services to IDPs residing in the relief camp. A team of medical experts—including Dr. Chongnu Haokip (MO i/c PHC Kalapahar), Dr. S. Dimngel (Asst. Prof., ENT), Dr. J. Touthang (Paediatrician), Dr. Archana Nayak (Obs. & Gynae, DPR RIMS), and Dr. Angelin Francis T. (General Medicine, DPR RIMS)—examined and treated hundreds of patients under the supervision of Dr. Paokai Kipgen, CMO Kangpokpi.
Free consultations, treatments, and essential medicines were provided to all patients. The Tribal Research Institute, Manipur, also extended full logistical support, including transportation, breakfast, refreshment, and lunch for participants and beneficiaries.
Officials from TRI Manipur and the District Health Department commended the initiative, describing it as a powerful expression of service, solidarity, and compassion. The event not only strengthened healthcare outreach for displaced tribal families but also reflected the enduring spirit of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas—a celebration of courage, unity, and the timeless legacy of India’s tribal heroes.
