The union stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and humanity among communities

The Kuki Women Union (KWU) has expressed serious concern over the ongoing situation faced by residents of the Chassad area under Kamjong district, alleging that Kuki villages in the region have been subjected to an economic embargo for the past three weeks.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the union claimed that people from Chassad and nearby Kuki villages have been denied access to Kamjong Bazaar and restricted from purchasing essential commodities and daily necessities. The statement further alleged that movement through the Kamjong route to other Kuki villages has also been obstructed, resulting in severe hardships for the local population.

Despite the restrictions, the KWU stated that the people of Chassad have continued to maintain peace and restraint. It asserted that no retaliatory action or restrictions have been imposed on others, adding that vehicles and individuals from the Tangkhul community have been allowed to pass freely through Chassad roads, even during night hours, without obstruction.

The union stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and humanity among communities, stating that such values must prevail over hostility and discrimination.

The KWU appealed to the district administration and other concerned authorities to immediately intervene and take necessary steps to restore normalcy, ensure free movement, and maintain peaceful relations among communities in the area.

The union also warned that failure to address the issue promptly could further aggravate the sufferings of innocent civilians who depend on these routes and markets for their daily survival.
