The Kuki Students Organisations Churacahndpur has sealed the office of Deputy General Manager NHIDCL Churachandpur on Thursday.
The action has been taken following the expiry of 3 days ultimatum served by the KSO to NHIDCL to furnish a clear and definite timeline for commencement of the culvert construction and completion of the ongoing drainage works at Hmar Veng (opp. Circuit House) and Tuibong (opp. KSO Complex).
Earlier KSO Churachandpur had expressed its strong displeasure over "NHIDCL's continued inaction on the construction of culverts at Hmar Veng (opp. Circuit House) and Tuibong (opp. KSO Complex)" through a letter to the Deputy General Manager NHIDCL Churachandpur on August 7.
In the letter KSO stated that,"despite the meeting with DGM, NHIDCL several months ago, no concrete action has followed. Recent rainfall caused severe flooding at both locations, making the road practically impassable. The slow progress of drainage works along Tiddim Road and the accumulation of excavated earth and stone chips have further narrowed the road, posing serious risks to motorists and pedestrians".
KSO informed DGM that in 2026, two youths on a two-wheeler fell into an open drain at night during rainfall near KSO Complex, Tuibong, and were swept away by strong currents before being rescued.
Stating that recently, a cyclist was nearly swept away at the same location in broad daylight KSO asked," Are we waiting for a tragedy to happen before action is taken"?
KSO Churachandpur earlier issued ultimatum of three days to NHIDCL to furnish a clear and definite timeline for commencement of the culvert construction and completion of the ongoing drainage works.
KSO had also warned that they will be compel to take further necessary action without any further notice.
