The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Delhi & NCR held a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar on Thursday, raising concerns over what it described as the repeated killings of 26 Kuki-Zo civilians in Manipur between February and September 2026.
According to KSO Delhi & NCR, the victims included six women and two pregnant women. The organisation alleged that cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) and Zelianrong United Front - Kamson (ZUF-K) were responsible for the killings.
More than 250 members of the Kuki-Zo community participated in the protest, according to an executive of the organisation. Protesters expressed grief over the reported deaths and called on the government to take immediate action, including the arrest of those allegedly responsible and stronger protection for Kuki-Zo civilians living in areas considered vulnerable to sudden attacks.
The KSO Delhi & NCR also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes. In the memorandum, the KSO sought an independent, high-level investigation into the reported killings.
The KSO further called for the immediate abrogation of the NSCN-IM ceasefire agreement and urged the government to identify and dismantle what it described as unauthorised NSCN-IM camps in Manipur.
The protest continued for around an hour, with participants carrying placards and banners and raising slogans expressing their anger and grief over the reported deaths. Some placards contained strongly worded slogans targeting NSCN-IM and alleged proxy groups.
The KSO said the demonstration was intended to draw national attention to the security concerns of Kuki-Zo civilians and to press authorities for investigations, accountability and measures to prevent further violence.
