Ex-MLA GS Haupu Sponsors Football Tournament, Urges Youths to Abstain from Drugs

Former MLA from Singngat Assembly constituency in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, Ginsuanhau Zou, popularly known as GS Haupu, has urged youths to abstain from drugs.

Encouraging youths to participate in games and sports and stay away from drugs, GS Haupu sponsored the Drug-Free Teen Star Football Tournament, which began on Friday at Singngat KNT Turf.

Haupu, who is also expected to contest the upcoming Assembly election from the Singngat constituency, graced the opening ceremony of the tournament. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, he advised youths to engage in games and sports, maintaining that sports are among the best ways to keep them away from drugs.

Haupu said he had sponsored the tournament because he cared about the future of the younger generation. Recalling his younger days, he said there were no proper grounds or facilities for youths interested in games and sports at the time. However, the situation has improved, and youths now have access to various facilities, he added.

Haupu also visited the Community Health Centre in Singngat and interacted with the staff. He also extended financial assistance to patients at the centre.
