DAO Ccpur Urges Balanced Use of Fertilizers, Distributes to Farmers

The District Agriculture Office, Churachandpur, distributed urea and bio-fertilizers to farmers in the district on Monday.

The distribution began around 11 a.m. at the District Agriculture Office, where only registered farmers were provided fertilizers at subsidized rates.

Speaking to the media, District Agriculture Officer-in-Charge Sutthianlal said that, so far, the office had distributed around 2,500 bags of urea and 1,900 bags of bio-fertilizers.

Stating that there are about 8,000 registered farmers in the district, the officer said that the distribution depends on the allocation and stocks received from the head office.

The District Agriculture Officer said, “During this year, we are conducting different camps and campaigns based on the balanced use of fertilizers. During the previous year, when the department distributed large quantities of fertilizers, some farmers misused them excessively. We want to impose some restrictions this time because, when we observe the soil-test values and how farmers use fertilizers, we find that their use is somewhat excessive. So, we want to request farmers to use fertilizers in a balanced manner.”

The department, in collaboration with the district administration and other line departments, has also made bio-fertilizers and micronutrients available in the past. He said the department had also conducted different camps and campaigns during which bio-fertilizers were distributed to farmers.

The farmers are also provided training on how to cultivate crops based on the balanced use of fertilizers, he added. Requesting farmers to understand the hardships faced by the department in securing fertilizer allocations and stocks, he appealed to them to use fertilizers in a balanced manner rather than focusing only on urea.

Sutthianlal said urea is mainly used to supplement nitrogen, which is only one of the macronutrients required by plants. He informed that there are other macronutrients, such as phosphorus and potassium, that are also required for the healthy growth and good productivity of crops and plants.
