
Four persons lost their lives and many others sustained injuries after a DI pick-up truck carrying marriage guests plunged into a steep hill slope near Ngaljang village under Singngat Sub-Division of Churachandpur district at around 12 noon today.
Sources said the ill-fated truck, carrying approximately 30 to 40 passengers who were proceeding to attend a marriage send-off programme at Ngaljang village, failed to negotiate a steep stretch of road just before reaching the village. The vehicle then rolled down the hillside, overturning multiple times in a nearby abandoned field.
The four victims reportedly died on the spot, while a large number of passengers were injured, several of them seriously. Rescue efforts were launched by villagers and local volunteers who rushed the injured to nearby health facilities. The registration number of the vehicle could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
