CM Khemchand Visits Ukhrul; Lays Foundation Stone for Construction of Shirui Heritage Village

During the public gathering, various CSOs submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister.

As a part of the Government’s initiatives to reach out to people residing in different parts of the State and to oversee various developmental programmes being taken up, Chief Minister, Manipur Yumnam Khemchand Singh paid a maiden visit to Ukhrul District today and interacted with different public leaders and Civil Society Organaizations.

People of Ukhrul, dressed in vibrant Tangkhul traditional attire, welcomed and greeted the Chief Minister and his team at Mini-Secretariat, Hamleikhong, Ukhrul. An ululation was pronounced adding a touch of festivity to the occasion. The entourage was later escorted to DRDA Hall, Mini - Secretariat for interactions with the public leaders and CSOs of Ukhrul district. 

Deeply touched to the warm welcome being accorded by the CSOs and people of Ukhrul district, Yumnam Khemchand said, “We are one. We are first Indian, second, we belong to Manipur”.  He highlighted that the state has diverse traditions and cultures, for which everyone must show respect to one another. He recalled that conflicts were resolved through dialogues even in the World War II. He further said that the new government is just two months and 13 days old and there is so much to learn. He sought people’s support, welcoming every suggestion and advice for a peaceful Manipur. 

While ensuring safety and security of people travelling along Ukhrul-Imphal road (NH-202), the CM directed the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul District Asish Das to set up ROPs along Mahadev to Litan. He further said that he would apprise the Home Ministry for bringing a peaceful environment in the region. During the public gathering, various CSOs submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister.

As part of the reception program, seven distinguished schools namely Ukhrul Central School, Ukhrul Public School, KTL Excel Hr. Sec. School, Alice Christian Hr. Sec. School, Little Angel’s Hr. Sec. School, Scholars' Pakshimi High School and OTC Juniors’s Academy showcased their innovative exhibitions, providing a vibrant platform to highlight their student's outstanding creative projects, cutting-edge research and artistic achievements. It also aims to cultivate a culture of interdisciplinary approaches and motivate young minds to pursue their passions. 

The Chief Minister later visited and inspected two major ongoing development worksites being taken up by the Public Works Department, Ukhrul Division including construction of pavement with thin white topping and interlocking paver blocks at 6th MR connecting Eastern Circular Road via Seventh Finance Quarter and NH-102A to Eastern Circular Road via Shimreiphy Printing Press under SASCI funding.

The Chief Minister planted tree saplings at Shirui Heritage village and also laid the foundation stone for the construction of Shirui Heritage Village & Bakshi Ground at Shirui village.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, MLAs Th. Radheshyam, Dr. Yumnam Radheshyam, Paonam Brojen Singh, Heikham Dingo, Sheikh Noorul Hassan,Thangjam Arunkumar, Kongkham Robindro Singh, Leishiyo Keishing, Ram Muivah, Khashim Vashum, Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel and senior government officials.
