
In a major step toward financial inclusion, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has opened its first branch in Senvon village, Pherzawl district significantly expanding access to banking services in one of the state’s previously unbanked regions. The development follows closely on the heels of State Bank of India establishing a branch in Parbung, making Senvonthe district’s second banking access point.
The branch was formally inaugurated by Tipaimukh MLA Ngursanglur Sanate after an opening prayer led by Pastor Timothy Pulamte.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA described the occasion as a landmark development for the people of Senvon and adjoining villages, who have long faced hardship due to the absence of nearby banking facilities. He attributed the successful establishment of the branch to sustained efforts and coordination by his team.
Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching, IAS termed the development “historic achievement,” stating that the district can now shed its tag as an unbanked region.
She underscored that the addition of PNB strengthens both financial and administrative infrastructure, while also encouraging mutually beneficial growth for residents and the banking institution.
PNB Branch Head Martin L. Mate said the bank is committed to providing reliable and accessible services to the people, and expressed hope that the branch would encourage savings and support small businesses in the area.
The inauguration ceremony was witnessed by district officials, police personnel, PNB representatives, civil society organisations, and members of the Senvon Village Authority. Local residents warmly welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the new branch would bring lasting economic benefits and improved financial accessibility. (DIO Pherzawl)
