Churachandpur district witnessed its first ever e-sports championship event, as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) players—especially youths from various parts of the district—competed in a two-day LAN event titled ‘Kuki Championship 2025’, held at B. Vengnom Community Hall on Saturday.

The event brought together young participants from across the district to prove their skills in the fast-growing world of e-sports.

Jointly organised by Gideon Media and young entrepreneur Genevie, the championship began with an online qualifying round featuring over 300 teams. From there, 17 teams were selected to take part in the LAN event. Starting Friday, players and their supporters gathered at the venue from morning till night, battling it out in a highly competitive atmosphere.

Speaking to The Hills Journal, one of the organisers, Gideon Baite, proprietor of Gideon Media, expressed that unlike traditional sports, e-sports offers unique advantages—no trials or quotas are required, and participants don’t need to represent a district or state to compete at the national or global level.

Gideon said the event aimed to provide a platform for the youth of Churachandpur to stay in tune with the rapidly growing global e-sports culture. “Coming together in a physical venue and competing with other E-sports lovers creates a different atmosphere and vibe,” he added.

Citing Mizoram's active support of e-sports—including the Mizoram e-Sports Open Championship and the Mizoram e-Sports Association—Gideon expressed disappointment that many in Churachandpur still view e-sports as a waste of time, with little to no recognition at the local level.

However, he also expressed hope that the Kuki-Zo society will gradually embrace e-sports. He emphasized that there are globally recognized professional e-sports players who earn income through competitions and by streaming on platforms like YouTube.

Despite facing challenges during the event’s organization, Gideon considered the championship a success, citing the enthusiastic participation and overwhelming response from local youth.

One of the competitors, Siam, described the event as a memorable moment for e-sports enthusiasts, being one of the first LAN-based competitions in the district. He expressed gratitude to the organisers for giving BGMI players an opportunity and platform to compete for an exciting cash prize.

The organisers also announced plans to host larger e-sports competitions with even bigger prize pools in the future.

Team PLE Kuki emerged as the champion, winning a cash prize of ₹50,000, followed by Lion Esports with ₹20,000, RKG Ahsi with ₹11,000, Immortal Sophia with ₹8,000, and Gens ES Sports with ₹5,000.

Individual awards included:

  • Best IGL – PLE Lilim
  • Top Fragger – LEO CORRY
  • MVP – PLE Clutch GOD
Each of the individual awardees received a cash prize of ₹2,000.
