BSF Constable Dies in Firing Incident in Ukhrul

As per sources, the incident occurred at around 4:47 pm in the Mongkot Chepu area under Ukhrul district when the constable was on routine patrol duty.

A Border Security Force (BSF) constable has succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a bullet from an unknown direction while on patrol duty in Ukhrul district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Constable Mithun Mandal, son of Mantu Mandal, a resident of Bhagjan Tola village in West Bengal, and currently serving with the 170 Battalion, A Company of the Border Security Force in Ukhrul.

As per sources, the incident occurred at around 4:47 pm in the Mongkot Chepu area under Ukhrul district when the constable was on routine patrol duty.

A bullet, fired from an unidentified direction, struck him on his left shoulder. The constable was immediately evacuated to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal. Despite efforts by medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries at around 6 pm. The body has been kept at the RIMS mortuary.

In a message shared on Facebook, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand condoled the death of the BSF personnel and termed the incident as tragic and unfortunate. He stated that the constable served the nation with unwavering courage, dedication, and a deep sense of duty. He added that the jawan’s supreme sacrifice in the line of duty would be remembered with the highest honour and gratitude.

The Chief Minister extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family and assured that the State Government stands in solidarity with them. He reiterated the government’s commitment to uphold peace, security, and justice in the state.
