Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Losii Dikho on Saturday said that the law and order situation in the state is improving.
The Deputy Chief Minister was briefing the media during his visit to Churachandpur district in Manipur. Replying to a media query on whether there is a chance for a peace agreement, Losii Dikho said, “Why not?”
When asked why he chose to travel to the district by chopper rather than using the land route, Dikho said it was due to time constraints.
The Deputy Chief Minister was gracing the Zomi Namni Football Tournament final match as the chief guest. While addressing the gathering before the match, Dikho said, “People of Imphal are missing you so much. They are all sending you greetings today.”
Referring to the past Kuki and Naga conflict in Manipur, Dikho said people had gone through bad times but came together and resolved the conflict through prayers and understanding.
Recalling a moment during the Kuki and Naga conflict, the Deputy Chief Minister said that at that time, people from Motbung belonging to the Thadou community went to Naga areas and held prayers together.
Later, with that initiative, Naga people felt close and comfortable with the people of Motbung, Dikho said.
The Deputy Chief Minister also requested people to be peacemakers, adding that even through football there can be peace.
Stating that people are going through difficult times, the Deputy Chief Minister also stressed the need for peace. He added that the government is trying to reach out to all sections of society.
The visit of the Deputy Chief Minister, who is a Naga People’s Front MLA from Mao Assembly Constituency, is one of the first visits by a non–Kuki-Zo MLA to Churachandpur district since the beginning of the conflict in Manipur.
