Vehicle Belonging to Kuki Community Allegedly Hijacked, Torched at Senapati

A Bolero pickup vehicle belonging to a Kuki community member was allegedly forcibly taken from Mayangkhang Thangal village in Kangpokpi district to Senapati district headquarters, where it was later torched.

The vehicle, owned by Lamtinchon Chongloi, was allegedly hijacked from Mayangkhang Thangal village before being taken to Senapati and burned, according to the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Sadar Hills.

Condemning the incident, KSO Sadar Hills described the alleged act as “heartless and barbaric,” stating that the destruction of the vehicle had affected the livelihood of a poor daily wage earner.

The organisation also expressed concern over the economic hardship faced by people in Kangpokpi district amid the economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC), which it said had continued for the past three months.

KSO Sadar Hills claimed that despite the blockade, Naga residents living within Kangpokpi district had continued to access essential goods and services without facing a counter-blockade from the Kuki community.

The organisation demanded that the concerned authorities take responsibility, initiate immediate action and compensate Chongloi for the loss.

KSO Sadar Hills warned that continued inaction could undermine efforts to maintain peaceful coexistence and humanitarian values, while appealing to the authorities to ensure justice for the victim.

The organisation further appealed for immediate intervention to prevent further escalation and maintain peace in the region.
