Thadou Tribe Council Writes to United Naga Council Over Kangpokpi–Churachandpur Road

The proposed bypass route takes a much longer path to avoid all JTC areas and passes through land occupied by the Chiru tribe.

The Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) has urged the United Naga Council (UNC) to advise the Joint Tribe Council (JTC), representing the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei, and Zemei tribes, not to disturb or interfere in matters related to the Churachandpur–Kangpokpi connectivity road.

In a letter addressed to the President of the United Naga Council on Thursday, the Thadou Tribe Council stated that certain evil-minded and mischievous individuals have, from time to time, created unnecessary disturbances along the route.

As a result, there was a compulsion to create an “Alternative Route” to bypass all JTC areas in order to maintain peace and avoid disturbing their respective environments, the letter stated.

The proposed bypass route takes a much longer path to avoid all JTC areas and passes through land occupied by the Chiru tribe.

“However, it is very unfortunate that the JTC’s memo (Vide No. NIL. JTC/MSC/2025-1, dated July 15, 2025), addressed to the UNC, portrays the Kukis as ‘encroaching Naga ancestral land,’ despite our efforts to deliberately avoid all their areas and instead route the road through the land of our blood brothers — Chiru Khoirou/Dolang Khunou Village,” stated the TTC.

The TTC appealed to the UNC to advise the JTC not to meddle in matters where they have no legal authority, as doing so tarnishes the image of the Nagas as well as the principles of Christianity.
