Self-Styled Zogam Liberation Front Chief Apprehended in Churachandpur

5 Assam Rifles and Churachandpur Police on May 9 apprehended a self-styled Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of a militant outfit called the Zogam Liberation Front, which was formed in 2025.

According to sources from the security forces, the C-in-C of the Zogam Liberation Front has been identified as Vincent Pumjamang Taithul, 41, who was apprehended in the general area of Lamjang in Churachandpur district.

It is stated that Vincent Pumjamang was involved in major extortion activities, recruitment of cadres through IDP settlements, and smuggling of weapons and drugs.

5 Assam Rifles launched a search-and-cordon operation along with Churachandpur Police on May 9. Upon reaching the suspected location, the area was cordoned off and a systematic search was carried out based on confirmed movement inputs regarding the individual.

During the search operation, the individual was found hiding inside a house. On noticing the approaching security forces, he attempted to flee the location but was swiftly chased and apprehended by the search party.

The Zogam Liberation Front had announced its formation on November 25, 2025, through a press release.
