Save Lanva Plantation Drive Conducted Under ‘Catch the Rain Campaign’

The District Administration and  Churachandpur Forest Division, jointly organized a Tree Plantation Drive titled “SAVE LANVA” under “Catch the Rain Campaign” today at Angels’ Place, Bungmual, Churachandpur.

The drive was organized as part of the ongoing efforts to promote the importance of environmental sustainability, rain water harvesting, conservation of water bodies and ecological restoration and to spread mass awareness and encourage collective responsibilities among all stakeholders in fostering green cover in the district. The initiative carried the message “Green Today, Brighter Tomorrow” and “Plant Trees - Clean Air - Better Tomorrow & More Trees, Healthier Communities.”

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner, Krishna Kumar, IAS stated that rivers are not just channels of flowing water but lifelines of civilizations, sources of drinking water, irrigation, groundwater recharge, livelihood and culture.

To ensure Lanva remains a lifeline of the district, support from public, youth organisations, CSOs, village chiefs and linedepartments is crucial. The SDOs of Churachandpur, Tuibong and Singngat and ADC Mualnuam will play a pivotal role, the movement must become a people's movement, the DC added.

He informed that interaction with CSOs, youth organizations, village chiefs and authorities will be held as their support is vital for its grand success. Observing that encroachment is one of the major issues along Lanva river witnessed this season, the DC stressed the need to restore traditional water bodies, wetlands and ponds to restore the ecosystem. The DC also appealed to media to spread the message and thanked all for their support.

The plantation drive was attended by Abhijit KV, IFS, DFO; Shokhongam Baite, MCS CEO, ADC; SDOs, Project Director, DRDA; DLOs and officials from district administration, forest and local volunteers. 

The District Administration, Churachandpur expressed gratitudeto all participants and appealed to the general public to continue supporting such green initiatives for a sustainable future.

A total of 100 saplings were planted along Lanva river of Angels’ Place. (DIO)
