Saikul MLA Condemns ‘Barbaric’ Kultuh Attack; Demands Swift Justice for Slain Church Leaders

Saikul MLA Kimneo Hangshing strongly condemned the deadly militant attack on Kultuh village in Manipur's Ukhrul district, describing it as a “barbaric and cowardly” act that claimed the lives of two respected community and church leaders and plunged the region into fresh grief amid continuing tensions.

The MLA denounced the pre-dawn assault allegedly carried out by armed militants on Kultuh village, which resulted in the deaths of Letminlun Haokip (34) and Lunminthang Haokip (36), both widely known for their service to the church and society.

The legislator said the attack was not merely an assault on individuals but a direct attack on the values of peace, faith and communal harmony that the people of the region have long sought to preserve.

According to the MLA, the late Letminlun Haokip served as Gambih Secretary of KBC No. 17 and Head Deacon of Kultuh Baptist Church, while Lunminthang Haokip was the Gambih Youth Secretary of KBC No. 17 and Youth Chairman of the church. Both were described as dedicated servants of God whose contributions extended beyond religious service into the social and moral well-being of their community.

Calling the killings a “senseless act of violence against innocent civilians,” Hangshing said such attacks have no place in a civilized society and only deepen the wounds of people already reeling from prolonged instability and insecurity.

“The attack threatens the peace, harmony and coexistence that we must collectively strive to uphold,” the MLA said, while expressing solidarity with the bereaved families and the people of Kultuh village.

Hangshing urged the authorities to launch a thorough investigation, identify and apprehend those responsible, and ensure that justice is delivered without delay. She further called for urgent measures to strengthen security and protect vulnerable civilian populations in the region.

The condemnation comes amid growing outrage over the attack, which has triggered widespread grief and renewed concerns over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Manipur's hill districts.

Appealing for unity in the face of tragedy, the MLA called upon all sections of society to stand together against violence and reaffirm their commitment to peace, justice and the sanctity of human life.

The killings have sparked strong reactions from community leaders and civil society groups, with demands mounting for decisive action against those behind the deadly assault.
