Prime Accused in Nambol Sabal Leikai Assam Rifles Ambush Apprehended

Multiple raids are currently underway to apprehend additional individuals involved in the attack.

The prime accused in the deadly ambush on Assam Rifles personnel on September 19, 2025, has been arrested by a joint team of District Police Imphal West, Bishnupur, 33-AR, and other security forces. The operation, conducted in the early hours today at around 1:00 am, led to the capture of Khomdram Ojit Singh @ Keilal (47) from Awang Leikinthabi Awang Leikai, District Imphal West.

According to the police, Singh is a bailed-out member of the banned militant outfit People's Liberation Army (PLA), and despite his release, he continued his association with the group. Singh had previously been arrested in 2007. During questioning, Singh admitted to his direct involvement in the ambush that targeted Assam Rifles personnel at Sabal Leikai, Nambol, on September 19. The attack took place at around 5:30 pm, and after opening fire, Singh and his accomplices fled towards the Loktak lake area, where they concealed weapons and ammunition at a secret location.

Upon his disclosure, security forces were able to recover a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including:
• 1 A4 Rifle with 4 magazines
• 1 HK Rifle with 2 magazines
• 2 AK Rifles with 5 magazines
• 1 INSAS Rifle with 3 magazines
• 3 Lathode shells
• 170 rounds of AK ammunition
• 216 rounds of M16 ammunition
• 67 rounds of INSAS ammunition
• 1 mobile handset
• 1 wallet
• 1 Aadhaar card

The state Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further leads have been developed. Multiple raids are currently underway to apprehend additional individuals involved in the attack.

The operation highlights the continuing efforts of security forces to maintain law and order in the region and ensure accountability for acts of violence against the armed forces.
