Preparations Underway in Full Swing for 80th Independence Day Celebration in Churachandpur

As the country prepares to celebrate its 80th Independence Day, preparations have also been going on in full swing in Churachandpur district of Manipur.

Since Friday morning, decorative gates have been set up near the district police station and at the entrance of the main venue for the celebration, Peace Ground in Tuibong.

Indian flags are being installed near the police station, while a few vehicles can also be seen carrying Indian flags on the roads.

At Peace Ground, Tuibong, which is the main venue for the district-level celebrations, posters have been put up, and Indian flags have been installed at the corners and along the sides of the ground.

The Deputy Commissioner of the district, Krishna Kumar, oversaw the preparations at Peace Ground along with other district-level officers.

The preparations were still underway when this report was filed.

Speaking to The Hills Journal at the site of the preparations, Lalrobul Fimate, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur, said, “As you can see, extensive preparations are underway for the 80th Independence Day celebration, and security has been beefed up. This time, there will be around 23 contingents from various schools, the Central Armed Police Forces and the NCC.

“At the same time, there will be performances by cultural troupes from Rayburn College, Churachandpur College and JNV as well.

“There will also be the singing of the national anthem and Vande Mataram for the very first time, as the occasion also commemorates the national song.

“Banners and posters highlighting the activities of various departments have been displayed, and the ground is still undergoing final preparations.”

The Additional Deputy Commissioner invited the general public to participate in and witness the grand Independence Day celebration.

He also reminded the public about the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, under which the national flag is to be displayed at every household. A day earlier, a bike rally led by the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police was also held from Tuibong to Geljang to remind people of the patriotism they should instil in their minds and to highlight the importance and significance of the national flag.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner also invited everyone to remember that this is a time for unity, especially for Churachandpur district.
