Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me( Poumai Naga Student Union) has urged the United Naga Council to educate 'untrain volunteers' at Liangmai Namdilong Gate Kanglatombi.
Following the incident at Namdilong Gate on Monday wherein the vehicle of Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me officials who were on their way to imphal were ambushed and attacked, the organisation wrote a letter to the President United Naga Council requesting for immediate intervention.
The letter stated that the executives of the Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM), along with former presidents and other senior officials, were on their way to Imphal for important matters when their official vehicles were ambushed and attacked.
PNTM stated that "The vehicles were stoned and shot by catapult and some vehicles were detained even showing their ID cards which resulted in severe harm to those inside during the incident even to the extent of loss of lives, which occurred at Liangmai Namdilong Gate in Kanglatombi. Our vehicles, clearly marked with the name "President, Poumai Naga Students' Union," were visibly travelling peacefully for our work".
The letter added that the intentional attack on dedicated PNTM leaders is unacceptable while adding that PNTM has made significant sacrifices for the Naga cause, particularly for the Liangmai brothers.
" To face such hostility towards our own dedicated leaders raises serious concerns about the recognition of our efforts and sacrifices. It feels as though our hard work is being disregarded. If our sacrifices remain unrecognised and unappreciated, the PNTM may be forced to declare an end to our support and contribution", PNTM stated.
The organisation stated that mutual respect and acknowledgement of sacrifices are essential for unity within Naga community while adding that such actions should never be repeated as they undermine shared interests and unity.
In a separate release, Mao Students' Union expresses deep concern over what it called an unfortunate incident at the Namdilong Bandh Gate, where the office vehicle of the Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM), along with the vehicle and convoy Deputy Chief Minister, Losii Dikho, was subjected to stone-pelting by volunteers.
Stating that such an incident is deeply regrettable and does not reflect the spirit of Naga brotherhood, mutual respect and unity, the union added that differences and grievances may arise, but they should always be addressed through peaceful and democratic means.
"At this crucial juncture, we need more unity than division, more dialogue than confrontation, and more understanding than hostility" the release added
The union appeal to all concerned to exercise restraint and ensure that such an unfortunate incident is never repeated.
