Kangpokpi Police has arrested one individual in connection with the alleged assault on a Tangkhul Naga auto driver near the Presidency College Gate at Motbung on September 17, an incident that triggered outrage and condemnation from various organisations.

The arrested person has been identified as Seibem Lhouvum (29), son of Hensei Lhouvum of K. Phoipi Veng, Motbung.

Significantly, family testimonies have confirmed that Seibem is a drug abuser with no association whatsoever with any militant organisation. His family categorically clarified that he has no links with the Kuki National Army (KNA) or any armed group, directly contradicting the sweeping allegation that a KNA cadre was behind the assault.

Police sources further indicated that the case points to substance abuse and individual misconduct rather than a militant plot, exposing the dangers of misattributing crimes to armed groups without evidence.

The arrested individual is currently in police custody while investigations continue.
