In a significant step towards ensuring safer and more nutritious food for the community, the Food Safety Administration, Kangpokpi, in collaboration with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), today organized a comprehensive Awareness Programme on Food Fortification, Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Hygiene Practices, and Food Safety Licensing/Registration.

The event, held at the Elite Higher Secondary School Campus, Kangpokpi Ward No. 7, drew full participation from all Anganwadi supervisors, workers, and helpers under ICDS Kangpokpi. The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) as part of its Eat Right India campaign, aiming to improve food safety standards and nutrition across the country.

The session focused on:

Food Fortification: Emphasizing the need to enrich staple foods with essential vitamins and minerals to tackle malnutrition.

Good Manufacturing & Good Hygiene Practices: Training participants on maintaining high standards in food preparation, storage, and distribution to prevent contamination.

Food Poisoning Prevention: Educating about early detection, prevention, and immediate response to cases of foodborne illness.

Licensing & Registration Procedures: Guiding ICDS staff through the mandatory process of obtaining and renewing food safety licenses.

Speaking at the event, L. Johnny, Designated Officer Senapati, Additional Charge Kangpokpi, Food Safety Administration highlighted that ensuring quality food is not just a regulatory duty but also a moral responsibility towards community health—especially for vulnerable groups like children and pregnant women who rely heavily on Anganwadi services.

The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants sought clarifications on fortification techniques, safe handling of mid-day meals, and ways to report suspected food safety violations.

The organisers expressed confidence that the knowledge shared today would directly benefit thousands of beneficiaries across Kangpokpi district by enhancing the safety, quality, and nutritional value of food distributed through Anganwadi centres.
