The District Administration of Pherzawl, in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office and the District Programme Officer (ICDS), observed International Women’s Day 2026 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Complex today under the theme “Give to Gain.” The programme highlighted the significance of empowering women through education, equality, and social justice.

Organised under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)initiative and held under the aegis of the Deputy Commissioner, the event brought together officials, women leaders, students and community members to commemorate the global occasion. A key highlight of the celebration was the final round of an extempore speech competition among girl students, organised in collaboration with various women’s groups. Winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates, while gifts were also distributed to all women and girls who attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching IAS underscored the indispensable role of women in society, noting that men are incomplete without women and that progress in society depends on equal opportunities for both genders. She also reflected on the historic 1908 march in New York City, where around 15,000 women protested against harsh working conditions, low wages and demanded voting rights—an event that later inspired the global observance of International Women’s Day.

Emphasising the theme “Give to Gain,” she stated that empowering women through education, freedom and property rights ultimately benefits families and society at large. Quoting the slogan “Giving is not subtraction; it is multiplication,” the Deputy Commissioner noted that educated women play a vital role in shaping responsible families and nurturing future generations.

She further stressed the importance of gender equality in society, churches and families, while calling for collective efforts to ensure justice, safety and protection against violence against women.

The celebration concluded with renewed commitment from the district administration and participants to continue promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality in Pherzawl district. (DIO Pherzawl)
