Manipur ADGP Lhari Dorjee on Monday said that Manipur Police has launched intensified operations following a series of violent incidents in the state since Sunday night, including two separate firing incidents that claimed four lives and left several others injured.
Addressing media persons at Police Headquarters, Mantripukhri, Lhari Dorjee said three villagers were killed and three others injured when unidentified armed militants opened fire on a group of 14 Meitei villagers collecting firewood at Sunulok Hill under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district on Monday morning.
The ADGP said an IED explosion at Kakwa Lamdaigung Lampak near Singjamei Police station on Sunday night also left three CRPF personnel seriously injured.
Dorjee said joint operations involving Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF, Army, Assam Rifles and other security agencies are underway to identify those involved and prevent further escalation. He said drones, sniffer dogs and helicopter surveillance were also being used.
Responding to allegations that Assam Rifles personnel near the site of the firing in Sunulok Hill failed to react, the ADGP said the matter is being investigated and asserted that Assam Rifles personnel had helped evacuate the injured and deceased.
Lhari Dorjee appealed to the public to remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from circulating unverified information or provocative content on social media.
