K. Songlung Part II village in Kangpokpi district was attacked by alleged NSCN (IM) and ZUF (K) militants on June 25.
According to the Kuki Chief Union, Kangchup Media Cell, the militants advanced from Waphong Inthan, a Naga village. However, the attack was met with an immediate response from personnel of the 19 Assam Rifles, who are temporarily stationed at K. Songlung Part II to provide security for the village. The security forces retaliated promptly, forcing the attackers to retreat.
During the incident, Shemkholal Haokip, Chairman of K. Songlung Part II, sustained minor injuries.
The Kuki Chief Union, Kangchup stated that the incident marks the third major attack on K. Songlung Part II this year.
The union recalled that the first attack took place on January 26, 2026 (India's Republic Day), during which more than five houses and one four-wheeler jeep were completely burnt down.
The second attack occurred on the midnight of March 10, 2026, followed by a mob attack on March 11, 2026, during which temporary shelters and tarpaulin structures were burnt down.
The third attack occurred on June 25, 2026, resulting in minor injuries to the village chairman.
The union stated that Waphong Inthan is among the nearest Naga villages to the location where three TBA pastors—Rev. Dr. V. Sitlhou, Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou—were killed on May 13, 2026.
The union further alleged that, instead of conducting security operations in the Waphong Inthan area, central security forces, including the CoBRA unit, have carried out operations in Kuki-Zo areas.
The union appealed to the Government of India to conduct an impartial, comprehensive, and time-bound security operation in the Waphong Inthan area, where it alleged the attacks originated. It also urged the authorities to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all individuals responsible for the attacks on K. Songlung Part II and the killings of the three TBA church leaders.
The union also called on the government to enhance protection for Kuki-Zo villages by strengthening security arrangements, including at K. Songlung Part II, to prevent further attacks.
