No Pre-Poll Alliance for NPP in 2027 Manipur Assembly Elections: NPP President Conrad Sangma

The National People’s Party (NPP) chief Conrad Sangma on Saturday declared that his party will not have have any pre poll alliance for the upcoming 2027 assembly elections in Manipur.

Sangma who was in Imphal for a two-day visit inaugurated the NPP’s new office at Mantripukhri told media persons that that the party will approach the people with its own manifesto, principles and political stand.

Briefing media in Imphal on Saturday, Sangma said NPP is currently working to strengthen its organisation across all 60 Assembly constituencies in the state while informing that  the decision on the number of seats where NPP will contest the upcoming election will be taken later by the party’s state committee and election committee.

Sangma also said that  NPP is witnessing growing expectations among the people of Manipur who are looking for a  regionally rooted political alternative.  NPP could potentially emerge as the single largest party in the 2027 elections if it is able to properly organise itself and build the confidence of the people, he added.

He said that the  decision for post poll alignment would depend on the mandate of the people and would be taken only after the election results.

Sangma also said  rebuilding trust among communities, ensuring law and order and reviving economic activities would be key priorities on the current situation in Manipur.

The NPP President stressed the need for dialogue among different communities and leaders, while asserting that issues related to national security and national interest cannot be compromised.

Sangma also said the government must continue efforts to facilitate the return and resettlement of internally displaced people (IDPs), adding that the NPP would continue to raise their concerns.

Urging the people of Manipur to “give peace a chance,” he said the state must look towards the future and work towards living together and rebuilding trust.

On infiltration from neighbouring countries, Sangma said the concern was genuine but needed to be handled carefully by taking local people into confidence and ensuring that ordinary citizens do not suffer.
