Kuki Liberation Army( L) has stated that the deadly ambush in Nambol, Bishnupur district on Friday night starkly highlights the potential consequences of the state government's decision to exclude the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from specific jurisdictions within Imphal Valley, notably in Meitei-dominated areas.
Reacting to the incident, the KLA issued a release on Friday night stating that the exclusion of AFSPA in these areas has arguably compromised the capacity of security forces to respond to emerging threats and maintain order.
KLA stated that selective application of AFSPA, with exclusions in certain areas contrasted against its continued enforcement in others, fosters perceptions of differential treatment, thereby exacerbating inter-community tensions.
" By removing the special powers conferred by AFSPA, the state government has engendered vulnerabilities in regions susceptible to insurgent activities", KLA stated.
The release stated that the Nambol incident is a stark reminder of the potential consequences of the policy shift, which may undermine the efficacy of counter-insurgency operations and destabilize the delicate security balance in North-East India.
Furthermore, the diminution of AFSPA's scope may impede the operational latitude of security forces in executing effective counter-insurgency strategies in affected regions, potentially leading to an increase in militant activities and a deterioration of law and order, stated the release
