Massive Drug Haul in Kangpokpi: Police Seize Nearly 10 Kg of Suspected Brown Sugar, Three Arrested

In a major breakthrough against the drug menace, Kangpokpi Police on Tuesday seized 225 soap cases containing suspected Brown Sugar weighing 9.844 kilograms (including the weight of the soap cases) during a joint operation conducted under the supervision of Abhinav, IPS, SP Kangpokpi.

Based on specific intelligence inputs regarding drug transportation by certain individuals, a combined team led by Addl. SP (L&O) Kangpokpi, SDPO Kangpokpi, SDPO Saparmeina, and OC Kangpokpi Police Station, in close coordination with personnel from the 16 Assam Rifles and 112 Battalion CRPF, launched a targeted operation from 1300 hours on October 14, 2025.

The operation led to the arrest of three individuals identified as Veineichong Lhungdim and Thongkhopao Lhungdim, a couple from C. Munnom Village, Saitu Gamphajol, Kangpokpi and Thangminlun Haokip, son of Thanghao Haokip, of T. Thangkan Village, Saikul.

The team recovered and seized the following items during the operation - 225 soap cases containing suspected Brown Sugar; One Alto car used in the transportation; One Diesel Auto and four mobile phones suspected to have been used for coordination.

Police sources confirmed that the accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and network of the illegal consignment.

The successful operation marks a significant step in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in the district. Authorities reiterated their commitment to intensify operations to curb the spread of narcotics and dismantle networks involved in the illicit trade.
