Lamka: Body of Man Swept Away by Lanva River Recovered on Saturday

The body of a man who was swept away by the Lanva River on Thursday evening in Churachandpur district, Manipur, was recovered on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Thangjohnson, 33, a resident of New Lamka Vengnuam South. According to local residents, Thangjohnson was swept away by the strong river current while attempting to retrieve construction materials that had been washed away during embankment construction work along the Lanva River.

Following the incident, a search operation was conducted by the Joint Philanthropic Organisation and other civil society organisations along the Lanva River and the Tuitha River.

On Saturday, at around 11:30 a.m., Thangjohnson's body was recovered from the Tuitha River between Khominthang and Saikot Village.

It is learnt that Thangjohnson was an orphan who had been staying at a relative's house and worked as a daily wage earner.

The body was buried at the Young Paite Association New Lamka Cemetery on Saturday evening.
