Kuki Zo women stage sit in protest against alleged extra judicial killing of a youth in Churachandpur

KWOHR seeks independent judicial inquiry headed by a sitting or retired High Court Judge within one week into the circumstances leading to the death of Lenminsang Haokip.

Kuki zo women in Churachandpur staged sit in protest against the alleged 'extra judicial killing of Lenminsang Haokip by Security Forces' on 16 June 2026 at Songkong Village, Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur District.

The sit in protest held at Wall Of Remembrance was organised by Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights(KWOHR).

Women from different areas of the district took part in the protest. Leaders of KWOHR and Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum addressed the gathering

A public donation was also organised for the family of late Lenminsang Haokip. KWOHR also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister of Manipur and Union Home Minister Amit Shah though the deputy commissioner of the district.

In the memorandum, KWOHR seeks
(I) independent judicial inquiry headed by a sitting or retired High Court Judge within one week into the circumstances leading to the death of Lenminsang Haokip.

(ii) identify the Central Security Force personnel responsible for the shooting and any subsequent fabrication of evidence, and initiate appropriate criminal and departmental proceedings in accordance with law.

(iii) Ensure preservation of all material evidence, including the seized clothing of the deceased, forensic records, operational logs, drone footage, body-camera recordings, wireless communications, and all relevant records connected with the operation.

(iv)Direct that the post-mortem report be furnished without delay to the family of the deceased.

(V)Extend appropriate compensation and rehabilitation to the bereaved family in accordance with law and applicable government policy.
