Kuki Inpi Manipur Sets Record Straight About Allegations Surrounding Developments in S. Changoubung Village

The Kuki Inpi Manipur - the apex body of Kuki tribes, has issued a strong clarification addressing allegations surrounding recent developments in S. Changoubung Village in Kangpokpi district, amid the ongoing shutdown imposed by the United Naga Council.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Kuki apex body asserted that the position of the Kuki community is based on “factual occurrences on the ground.” It cited concerns over alleged unauthorised entry into the jurisdiction of S. Changoubung Kuki Village, obstruction of public movement, and attempts to coerce residents and shopkeepers. The statement also mentioned instances of verbal and physical abuse.

Rejecting circulating claims, Kuki Inpi Manipur described as “unfounded” allegations that the community had disrespected the dead, hurt Naga sentiments, or intentionally provoked violence. It termed such narratives a “grave distortion of facts” and “totally unacceptable.”

The Kuki Inpi emphasised that it respects the traditions and sensitivities of other tribal communities and maintained that there has been no intention to escalate tensions. It reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights, safety, and dignity of all residents within their respective areas.

Calling the situation critical, Kuki Inpi Manipur urged all communities to exercise restraint in both words and actions. It warned that the spread of unverified or inflammatory information could deepen divisions and undermine peace efforts.

The apex body further appealed to civil society leaders, community representatives, and authorities to prioritise dialogue rooted in truth and mutual understanding, stressing the need for collective efforts to maintain harmony and prevent further misunderstandings in the region.
