The Kuki CSO Working Committee has strongly condemned what it described as “misleading and inflammatory narratives” circulated by the Meitei Alliance regarding the incidents reported in Kamjong district on May 7, 2026.

In a statement issued by its Department of Information and Media, the Committee alleged that the narratives being circulated were based on “unverified allegations, speculative assertions, and deliberate attempts to communalise and internationalise a sensitive security situation without credible evidence.”

The Committee criticised repeated claims of “foreign aggression” and allegations linking the incident to Myanmar-based Kuki militant groups. It pointed out that Govindas Konthoujam, after visiting the affected villages, reportedly clarified that the term “foreign aggression” was not included in the official reports submitted to the government.

The organisation further stated that allegations involving cross-border attacks, drone warfare, and large-scale foreign incursions remain disputed and have not been independently verified through any transparent public investigation. It noted that while some reports alleged the involvement of KNA-B cadres, contradictory accounts and competing narratives continue to emerge from various stakeholders and agencies.

The Committee also accused sympathisers of NSCN-IM and the Eastern Flank in Kamjong and Ukhrul district of spreading misinformation aimed at misrepresenting attacks on Kuki villages and fuelling hostility between communities.

Raising concerns over alleged selective silence, the Committee highlighted the reported burning of the Kuki village of Lanchah, claiming that neither the government nor major civil society organisations in Kamjong district had issued strong condemnation over the incident.

The statement further expressed concern over reports of armed underground factions operating along the Indo-Myanmar border, including allegations involving NSCN-linked armed elements in civilian-populated areas and obstruction of lawful security operations.

The Committee warned that interference with security force operations during combing exercises and attempts to apprehend armed cadres undermines the rule of law and jeopardises civilian safety.

Describing attempts to collectively portray the Kuki community and Kuki civil society organisations as responsible for transnational militancy as “dangerous and divisive,” the Committee said such accusations deepen mistrust and threaten peace-building efforts in Manipur.

The organisation called on the Government of India and state authorities to prevent the spread of misinformation and communal propaganda, conduct impartial investigations into armed activities along the Indo-Myanmar border, investigate incidents involving obstruction of security operations in Kamjong and Ukhrul districts, ensure protection for civilians irrespective of ethnicity or religion, and initiate meaningful inter-community dialogue.

Reaffirming its commitment to constitutional values and peaceful coexistence, the Committee urged all sections of society to reject attempts to exploit tragic incidents for communal polarisation and political agendas.
