The Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and Zomi Re-unification Organisation (ZRO) declared that their common political goal, adopted after May 3, 2023, is a Union Territory with Legislature, and that it still remains the same until further decisions are made.

The KNO is an umbrella group of several Kuki-Zo insurgent organisations presently under Suspension of Operations (SoO) with the government, while the ZRO is a part of the United Peoples Front, which is also under Suspension of Operations with the government.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, the KNO and ZRO stated that they held a joint meeting on May 11 at the residence of the ZRO president and adopted several resolutions.

During the meeting, the KNO and ZRO unanimously resolved not to be involved in the programme of Y. Khemchand Singh’s visit to Churachandpur on May 15, 2026.

The two organisations also resolved to monitor communal disharmony spread through social media platforms such as WhatsApp Channels, Facebook pages, WhatsApp groups, etc., for which a Joint Monitoring Cell (JMC) was formed with members from the Information and Public Relations Departments of both organisations.

The secretaries of both organisations will jointly monitor the JMC.

With regard to the term “Kuki-Zo” as a common nomenclature, which is unacceptable to the Zomi, the KNO cabinet will first meet and discuss the matter with the leaders who advocated the term “Kuki-Zo”. After that, the two organisations will table the matter again in their next meeting.

The statement mentioned that the Zomi leaders suggested the use of the term “Kuki-Zomi” on the basis of mutual respect for the common political movement.

With regard to the formation of a Central Working Committee to coordinate and monitor the political dialogue, the ZRO cabinet will first deliberate on the matter, after which it will be tabled again in the next meeting, the statement added.”
