KSO Sadar Hills has rescinded the 48-hour ultimatum served earlier to officials of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and the Tribal Affairs & Hills (TA&Hills) Department in Kangpokpi, following assurances from the officials to ensure the efficient functioning of their offices and expeditious redressal of public grievances.

KSO SH, in a release issued on Saturday, stated: “In continuation of our earlier press communiqué, KSO Sadar Hills convened a productive meeting with esteemed departmental officers at the administrative office of KSO Sadar Hills.” The deliberations culminated in a solemn assurance from the officers to ensure efficient functioning of their offices and prompt redressal of public grievances.

KSO SH appealed to all departmental officers in the district to maintain unwavering punctuality and regularity in office attendance and to render proactive assistance in addressing public grievances.

The release further stated that KSO Sadar Hills shall undertake periodic surprise inspections to monitor progress and ensure accountability. It also warned that any instance of dereliction of duty would be met with resolute action.

On March 26, KSO Sadar Hills launched a scathing attack on officials of the two departments, accusing them of “chronic negligence, dereliction of duty, and administrative apathy” affecting the public.

The student body said it had received repeated complaints from the public regarding “irregularities and persistent absenteeism” by the Executive Engineer (EE), PHED, Kangpokpi Division, and the Deputy Director, TA&Hills, Kangpokpi.

Acting on these complaints, KSO Sadar Hills executives conducted a surprise inspection at the offices of both departments located within the DC Office Complex and confirmed the public’s allegations of irregular attendance and inefficiency, which severely hampered essential public services.

Condemning what it termed a “systemic collapse of accountability,” the student body issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the concerned officials to report to duty regularly and discharge their responsibilities with immediate effect.

Urging public cooperation, the organisation had also warned of further steps based on the response of the officials concerned.
