The United People’s Front and the Kuki National Organisation on Wednesday issued a strong and unequivocal condemnation of the bomb explosion at Tronglaubi in Manipur’s Bishnupur district that killed two children and left their mother critically injured.

In a joint statement, the two organisations described the incident as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” expressing anguish over the loss of innocent lives in the April 7 blast.

They extended their “sincere condolences” to the bereaved family and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured woman.

Striking a cautionary note, the UPF and KNO also urged the media and public to exercise restraint, warning against attributing responsibility to any particular community without verified facts.

“Reactions driven by speculation and unverified claims risk further inflaming an already fragile situation,” the statement said, calling for responsible reporting and sensitivity in the aftermath of the tragedy.

The condemnation comes amid heightened tensions in parts of the state, where incidents of violence have repeatedly drawn sharp reactions from civil society groups and armed organisations alike.

Meanwhile, the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) has unequivocally denied any involvement in the recent attack on civilians at Tronglaobi, Bishnupur, Manipur. These allegations are entirely unfounded and appear to be a deliberate attempt to misattribute blame in an already volatile environment.

In a statement, the UKNA reiterated that its objective remains the pursuit of a just and honourable political solution within the framework of the Constitution of India. The organisation neither condones nor engages in violence against innocent civilians, particularly children, under any circumstances.

UKNA further affirmed that it has been steadfastly safeguarding the buffer zones to prevent communal escalation and maintain fragile peace, and will continue to do so with unwavering resolve. Indeed, had it been left to the Kukis, decisive force could have been exercised against the unruly mob that brazenly breached the buffer zones, disregarded central security forces, and advanced towards the CRPF camp at P.Gelmol Kuki Village accross the Buffer zone. The restraint exhibited in such provocation is itself proof that Kukis were not complicit in the incident.

The organisation also placed on record its strong appreciation for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for its professionalism and composure in defusing a highly combustible situation, thereby averting imminent bloodshed at a moment when retaliatory escalation was a real and immediate danger.

The organisation also firmly refuted certain media reports alleging that three of its members have been arrested in connection with the incident. These claims are entirely baseless and false, the UKNA said, urging the media and concerned authorities to exercise responsibility and refrain from prematurely or falsely linking the organisation to the incident merely to pacify public anger in the valley. Such irresponsible reporting only deepens mistrust and exacerbates an already fragile situation.
