Kangpokpi's Damdei Christian College Marks Historic Leap with Launch of Postgraduate Programmes

In a defining moment for higher education in the hill district of Manipur, Damdei Christian College, Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District has officially inaugurated its Postgraduate Studies (M.A. & M.Sc.) programmes, signaling a new chapter in its enduring pursuit of academic excellence.

The landmark event was graced by Losii Dikho, MLA of 48-Mao Assembly Constituency, who formally inaugurated the programmes and unveiled the commemorative plaque. The ceremony also witnessed the presence of Paotinsei Kipgen, SDO–Saitu, Kangpokpi District, and Rev. Lunlal Kipgen, Vice President of the Thadou Baptist Association India (TBAI), who dedicated the occasion to the glory of God.

The newly introduced postgraduate programmes include Master of Arts in Education, Sociology, Political Science, History, and Anthropology, and Master of Science in Botany and Zoology — a move that places the institution among the leading academic centers in the state offering advanced studies and research opportunities.

In his keynote address, Losii Dikho lauded the management and faculty for their visionary leadership, describing the milestone as “a monumental stride in shaping the intellectual and professional future of the youth.” He further expressed confidence that the postgraduate programmes will “cultivate a new generation of thinkers, researchers, and nation-builders.”

Founded in 1987 by the late Henkholen Sitlhou (1923–2003), Damdei Christian College is affiliated to Manipur University and recognized under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The college’s postgraduate affiliation was approved following a departmental inspection conducted on April 29, 2024, led by Prof. G.K.N. Chhetry, Dean, School of Life Sciences, Manipur University.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks and a fellowship programme attended by dignitaries, faculty, alumni, and students, celebrating the institution’s visionary leap into postgraduate education.

With this historic milestone, Damdei Christian College reaffirms its steadfast commitment to quality education, holistic development, and the academic empowerment of future generations.
