In a powerful display of compassion and humanitarian responsibility, the people of Kangpokpi Town have once again demonstrated that in times of crisis, humanity rises above hardship. Responding swiftly to the plight of families displaced by the recent violence in Litan, residents of the town came together to extend meaningful relief and moral support to those forced out of their homes.
The humanitarian initiative was spearheaded by the Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation (KWWO) under the acknowledgement and support of the Kangpokpi Town Committee. The massive relief drive culminated in the donation of 280 blankets, 51 bags of clothes, 2 bags of utensils, and Rs. 33,000 in cash, reflecting not just material assistance but the deep empathy of the people of Kangpokpi.
The relief materials and cash contributions were formally handed over to the Relief Incharge of Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) by KWWO at its office in Kangpokpi today, marking a significant gesture of solidarity with the displaced families.
At a time when uncertainty and fear continue to haunt displaced families, the people of Kangpokpi Town have chosen compassion over indifference. From daily wage earners to business owners, homemakers to youth volunteers, contributions poured in as a testament to the district’s enduring spirit of unity.
"This act of generosity goes beyond numbers. Each blanket represents warmth against cold nights in relief camps. Each bag of clothes restores dignity to those who fled with little more than the clothes on their backs. The utensils signify a step towards rebuilding daily life, while the financial contribution stands as a crucial support for immediate and essential needs", lamented Tingnei Lhouvum, President KWWO.
Members of KWWO personally supervised the collection, sorting, and packaging of donated items, ensuring that all materials were in usable condition and ready for distribution. Their leadership not only streamlined the relief effort but also inspired widespread participation across the town.
CoTU's General Secretary, Janglim Khongsai noted that the scale of response underscores Kangpokpi town's longstanding tradition of standing firmly with communities in distress, regardless of geographical boundaries.
The Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation once again proved the transformative power of organized women-led initiatives. Known for its active involvement in social causes, KWWO demonstrated efficiency, transparency, and grassroots mobilization in coordinating the relief collection drive.
Community leaders lauded KWWO for setting a benchmark in humanitarian coordination, describing the initiative as “a shining example of women-led social responsibility and collective action.”
In handing over the materials to CoTU’s Relief Incharge, KWWO emphasized that the gesture was not merely a one-time act, but part of an ongoing commitment to stand by displaced families until normalcy is restored.
In times when divisions and violence threaten to fracture communities, the humanitarian response from Kangpokpi Town stands as a reminder that solidarity and compassion remain stronger than adversity. The town collective action not only addresses immediate needs but also restores faith in shared humanity.
The relief drive serves as an inspiring chapter in Kangpokpi’s history — one that reaffirms its identity as a community that rises together, cares together, and stands united in the face of suffering.
