
Hon'ble Mr. Justice K. Somashekar Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur cum patron-in-chief, Manipur State Legal Service Authority (MASLSA) visited Mandop Relief Camp located in Ward no. 11 Kangpokpi Town along with Justice Alek Muivah members Secy. MASLSA, in relation to Promotional Legal Aid and Awareness Campaign.
In his address, Justice K. Somashekar highlighted the judiciary's unwavering dedication to protecting the rights of vulnerable populations. He praised the collaborative efforts of government bodies, peace organizations, and volunteers in organizing relief initiatives for those in need. The justice also stressed the crucial role of education in society, stating that it is the most valuable material one can possess and is key to eliminating social stigma. He referenced various articles related to providing free legal aid for tribal communities, emphasizing that we are all brothers and sisters in the eyes of the law, and we must uphold this principle. Justice K. Somashekar urged everyone to be vigilant in upholding justice and promoting equality for all individuals, regardless of their background or status in society. This is essential for creating a just and harmonious society for all.
As a member of the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), Secretary Justice Alek Muivah also addressed the inmates and officials about the importance of Free Legal Aid guaranteed through Article 39A of the Indian Constitution. He emphasized the need to ensure access to justice for all, especially for the poor and marginalized sections of society. He highlighted various legal aid schemes, including the National Legal Service Authority (NALSA) and Lok Adalats (People's Court), which provide free legal assistance to those in need. He also mentioned the Free Legal Assistant number that can be availed by anyone seeking legal aid.
Justice K. Somashekar, along with the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), distributed essential relief materials to 38 families residing in the camp. Along with this, the Senapati and Kangpokpi Bar Association also presented shawls to Justice K. Somashekar and his colleague as a gesture of gratitude and appreciation.
The event was attended by Mahesh Chaudhari IAS DC, Manoj Prabhakar IPS SP, N Shokhongam Baite MCS ADM, MASLSA Members, Officials from the the Senapati and Kangpokpi Bar Association, DLO's, among all.
