In a bizarre turn of events, Liangmai Naga volunteers who had lined up along the Imphal-Dimapur road in an attempt to block and cause damage to Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen ended up damaging the vehicles of Deputy Chief Minister, Losii Dikho.
The incident occurred at Namdilong, where several Liangmai Naga volunteers said they had received information that Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen would be travelling to Imphal airport. In an attempt to disrupt her movement, they blocked the highway, apparently to thwart her movement. However, they ended up blocking another Deputy Chief Minister's convoy.
In this regard, the Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M), sincerely regrets and clarifies the unfortunate incident at Namdilong, where vehicles belonging to Losii Dikho, Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, along with those of the Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai (PNTM), were damaged by bandh volunteers.
The LNC-M stated, “We categorically clarify that there was no intention whatsoever to cause disrespect, inconvenience, or distress to the Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister and PNTM. The Bandh Committee and all our people hold him in the highest esteem, respect our brethren from the PNTM, and deeply regret the unfortunate occurrence.
The incident took place amid an already highly volatile and emotionally charged atmosphere following the tragic killing of two Naga village volunteers at Langka. The situation was further aggravated by misinformation regarding the movement of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen through the sensitive area. The vehicles also arrived unexpectedly, and the volunteers, acting in a heightened emotional state and without knowledge of their ownership, committed the unfortunate act, said LNC-M.
“In retrospect, prior communication regarding the movement and arrival of the vehicles could have helped avert the misunderstanding and prevented the unfortunate incident.”
The LNC-M appealed to all members of the public and their Naga brethren to remain calm, exercise restraint, and refrain from further confrontation or retaliatory actions.
“At this critical juncture, peace, maturity, and mutual respect must prevail,” the LNC-M said.
